PEMBLE, WILLIAM: A BRIEFE INTRODUCTION TO GEOGRAPHY, Containing a 
Description of the Grounds, and General Part thereof, Very Necessary for 
Young Students in that Science. William Hall for John Forrest, Oxford, 
1630[iv] + 41 pages. Eighteen (18) illustrations, [no fold-out table]. 
Woodcut illustrations found on 3, 4, 5, 6,7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 
22, 26, 30, 31 & 35. Sig. A2 is on the second leaf reaching  F2 on 
39-40.  The text ends on p. 41 (recto of leaf) with "FINIS" at bottom of 
page.  The verso is blank. The following blank is integral and on the same 
paper as the book.  Page 27 is erroneously numbered as 72. This work by 
Pemble is based on renaissance and experimental  physics, as of that date. 
His series of experimental and mathematical problems which form the text 
include references to Galileo, Copernicus and others. A master at Magdalen 
College, Oxford, Pemble was primarily a minister, but he was also a fine 
mathematician and had an excellent awareness of modern physics. This became 
the standard Geography text used in university for most of the 17th 
century. Its first publication was posthumous, he died in 1623. Wing;
