Greetings,

We are pleased to offer two important documents from the beginning of
Maine's statehood:

1. [Maine.] Perley, Jeremiah. THE DEBATES, RESOLUTIONS, AND OTHER
PROCEEDINGS, OF THE CONVENTION OF DELEGATES, ASSEMBLED AT PORTLAND ON
THE 11TH, AND CONTINUED UNTIL THE 29TH DAY OF OCTOBER, 1819, FOR THE
PURPOSE OF FORMING A CONSTITUTION FOR THE STATE OF MAINE... 1820. A.
Shirley, Printer. Portland. iv, 5-300, [1]. Printed
blue-paper-covered boards: soiled, several abrasions at edges. Paper
backstrip cracked and about 10-15% eroded. Pages untrimmed.
While separation from Massachusetts had been considered as early
as the mid 1780s, the District of Maine did not become the State of
Maine until 1820. This record of the convention of 1819 is a foundation
document in the history of Maine statehood. Thompson calls it "one of
the scarcest and most important documents from the early days of Maine's
statehood." American Imprints: 2073. Sabin: 43920. Williamson, A
Bibliography of the State of Maine: 7411. Thompson: Important Maine
Maps, Books, Prints and Ephemera: 26. [Item no. 2603.] $950.00.

2. [Maine.] RESOLVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MAINE,
PASSED AT ITS SESSION, WHICH COMMENCED ON THE TWENTY-FIRST DAY OF MAY,
AND ENDED ON THE TWENTY-EIGHTH DAY OF JUNE, ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED
AND TWENTY. 1820. Printed by Francis Douglas, Printer to the State.
Portland. 43, [3] p. Blue printed wrapper, the spine of which is
partially eroded. Significant dampstaining, not affecting legibility.
A few leaves with heavy foxing. Fore edges ragged.
The resolves of the first session of the Legislature of the
newly created State of Maine. Among the contents are a message from the
Governor, a list of the members of the "civil government of the State of
Maine for the political year 1820....21," and details of the design of
the state seal. Thompson describes this pamphlet as "very rare."
American Imprints: 2080. Williamson, A Bibliography of the State of
Maine: 6000. Thompson: Important Maine Maps, Books, Prints and
Ephemera: 28C. [Item no. 2618.] $550.00.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks for your
consideration.
