Knight, Richard Payne, (1750-1824). An account of the remains of the 
worship of Priapus, lately existing at Isernia, in the kingdom of 
Naples...London, T. Spilsbury, 1786. First edition, complete and in fine 
condition, 4vo, 195 pages and 18 engraved plates. Bound in later three 
quarters calf and marbled paper boards. Some minor offsetting to the full 
page plates.

Although later editions of this masterpiece are common, this first edition 
is rare, since Knight, in response to being Swift Boated by an 
exceptionally vile critic, reportedly bought up as many copies as he could
