Carpenter, R.R.M. GAME TRAILS FROM ALASKA TO AFIRCA.

np.; privately printed: 1938. Notes from the author in
several other copies of this book state that the printing
was limited to 800 copies.

An accomplished gentleman traveler and hunter, "Ruly" Carpenter shot polar 
bears in the Arctic, mountain lions in Arizona, jaguars in Mexico, big 
horns in Wyoming, and antelope and lions in Africa. These entertaining 
recollections are based on his diaries. He wrote several other books, 
including "North American Big Game" (1939), "Game Trails in Idaho and 
Alaska" (1940), and "My African Safari", for the Roycrofters in 1937. 
Carpenter also bought the Philadelphia Phillies baseball club in 1943; his 
grandson (Ruly III) finally sold the franchise in 1981, a year after it won 
its only World Series.

Hardcover. 6.5"x9", 180 pages, 25 b/w plates; publisher's light green cloth 
with gilt spine title, inset burgundy and gilt title on the front cover; 
light spine wear, small rub spot on front title; a bit rubbed at the 
extremities, very small stain at the upper margin near the spine. [04818]
