[ROOSEVELT, Franklin Delano] HALDANE, A. R. B. BY MANY
WATERS. A RECORD OF FISHING AND WALKING. London: Thomas
Nelson (1940). First Edition. Illustrated with full-page
photographs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt's copy SIGNED by him
with his initials: "FDR/1942" on the front endpaper. Once
tipped to the bottom of the endpaper and now loose is a
small brown piece of paper on which is written: "Dear Mr.
President--/from Bishop Atwood--/If he has no time to read
it/he may like to put it/into the White House Library."
Bishop Julius W. Atwood was head of the Episcopal Church in
Arizona, having come there in hopes the climate would help
his wife Anna, who had tuberculosis and who died shortly
after their arrival. Roosevelt was to be an honorary
pallbearer at Atwood's funeral in April 1945, but his death
on April 12 while in Warm Springs came first. From the
library of noted bibliophile and former director of the
Pierpont Morgan Library Frederick B. Adams, Jr., whose
mother Ellen Walters Delano was FDR's first cousin. Laid in
is a catalogue card from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Collection. Near Fine in a Near Fine dustwrapper. $900.00
