1866 SKYRING'S BUILDERS' PRICES: calculated from the Prime Cost of
Materials and Labour; containing the Metropolitan Buildings' Act, List of
District Surveyors, and a variety of new and important information.
London; W.H. Skyring: 1866. 56th edition.
An invaluable source of detailed information about the building-related
trades in the middle of the Victorian era. Prices for stonework, brickwork,
plastering, carpentry and joiners' work, and such incidentals as Venetian
blinds, perforated zinc blinds in mahogany frames, paper-hanging, electric
bell installation, window glazing, and on and on and on in excruciating and
fascinating detail. These books were obviously heavily used and then
discarded for a new edition, as although OCLC locates a number of different
editions in microform copies, the 8 editions they found physical copies of
were only represented by a single copy each in institutional libraries, and
there were no other copies offered by booksellers at the time this was
catalogued.
Hardcover. 5.5"x8.5", 170 pages with some line illustrations, + many pages
of illustrated advertisements; publisher's patterned green cloth with gilt
titles; covers lightly stained, a little wear, contents lightly thumbed,
binding a bit shaken, some pencil notes, some soil, minor wear. [06443] $250.00
