POUND, Ezra. A DRAFT OF XXX CANTOS. Paris: Hours Press
1930. First Limited. Original orange-lettered beige linen
cloth with woodcut initials after Dorothy Shakespear Pound.
Gallup A31a. Copy #95 of 200 numbered copies (of a total
edition of 212) printed on Canson-Mongolfier Soleil velin M.
R. V. Paper. "These Cantos, the first half of which were
published in 1925, represent the best work in Pound's 'poem
of some length' which is still in progress. There are more
lyrics and fewer chunks of prose than in the later, not so
many economic propositions and ideograms, and some beautiful
passages on the Homeric world and renaissance Italy"
(Connolly, The Modern Movement 66). An ex-library copy from
Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT with their library
bookplate on the front pastedown noting the book as a gift
of Miss Emily Hale. The only other markings are a very faint
number on the title page, an ink number at the bottom margin
of one text page and on the rear pastedown which also has an
adhesive remnant from a pocket holder, and an ink number at
the heel of the spine which, as usual, has the lettering
faded. A key title of twentieth-century poetry. A Very Good
copy of a scarce and important book. $1000.00
