Greetings All,

For your consideration:
~
(No. 6871 ) Robinson, W[illiam]. H. (b. 1848). FROM LOG CABIN TO THE
PULPIT, OR FIFTEEN YEARS IN SLAVERY.
(S.l.): (s.n.), [1907?]. Full cloth, Duodecimo, 181 pages, black & white
photographs, illus.. Good.
A rather scarce narrative of a slave in North Carolina and Virginia.
Robinson details many of slavery's horrors as he witnessed and experienced
them, including Lee's Slave Trading Pen at Richmond, whippings by overseers,
his father's attempt to buy his own freedom, running from slave hunters,
etc. When the Civil War broke out Robinson served first with his master on
the Confederate side. After his master was killed and Robinson was captured
he became a soldier in the Union Army. After the war he settled in
Nashville, Tennessee and worked as a fireman. He also had some talent as a
singer and banjo player. Robinson was educated at Central Tennessee College
and went on to become a Baptist and A.M.E. preacher. This is a valuable
first hand account of slavery and its end in America. BRIGNANO #221. Bound
in red cloth over boards with title to upper board, a few illustrations in
the text. Rubs and minor fraying to cloth at spine ends, some soil and
spotting to exterior, fading to spine. Hinges broken but still holding.
Interior is clean and bright, pages not brittle. $350.00
