1. [FORE-EDGE PAINTING - Valentine] (SHELLEY, Mary). THE
KEEPSAKE FOR MDCCCXXXI. London: For The Proprietor [1831].
First Edition. Small octavo (4-5/8" x 7-1/2") bound in the
original full black morocco ruled in gilt and stamped with
a gilt decorative design on both covers and gilt lettering and
decorations on the spine. Illustrated with steel engravings
including two by Turner. Contains two
tales--"Transformation" and "The Swiss Peasant"-- as well as
a poem--"A Dirge"--by the author of FRANKENSTEIN as well as
stories and poems by many others. In addition the book
contains a superb and early fore-edge painting of a
landscape dated 1831 and dedicated "To My Valentine." Near
Fine and a wonderfully romantic gift. $1000.00
