strychnine was proven, Hersey murdering his fiancee's three-month
pregnant sister after the fiancee's never-explained death;
presentation copy from B.W. Harris, the successful prosecutor.

law "in the country", away from the central courts in Westminster,
proceeding through the practicalities of litigating and providing

Joseph Chitty's copy of the first edition of Boscawen's pioneering
treatise, authoritatively examining the summary powers of justices
of the peace to try and convict without a jury, a subject neglected
by Burn and others in their earlier treatises.
