First edition of one of the few antiquarian treatises which
Holdsworth expressly states he utilized in writing his history, in
his words "an able summary [designed] to lay a foundation for some
very necessary reforms in this branch of the law".

First abridgment of one of the most famous English law books, and
the only one to appear in the 17th century, offering the essence of
(in Maitland's words) Coke's "enormous learning [shovelled out] in
vast disorderly heaps"; with the two portraits.

One of the five greatest English law books, a substantial folio,
here in an edition which Maitland praised, particularly for its
notes and their value for the study of English medieval law.

The second edition of a classic treatment of the English
constitution and of comparative constitutional law, said to have
prompted Bentham's remark that "Our author [Blackstone] has copied:
but Mr. de L'olme has thought".

based on Oxford lectures by Dicey, about whom Holmes remarked "I
