unobtrusive marks.
      Letters of this native Kentuckian to his wife present a vivid and
valuable first hand document of the War with Mexico. Important sketches of
several actions, including the battle of El-Molino-del-Rey in which the
heroic Anderson was wounded. Also includes glimpses of Winfield Scott,
Zachary Taylor, William Jenkins Worth and others. Twenty-one illustrations,
including engraving of the siege of Vera Cruz, a view of the puebla de Los
Angeles, engraving of the Battle of Chapultepec, and others. Dark blue cloth
over boards with gilt stamped spine lettering, top edge gilt. Minor
extremity wrinkles and light rubs, small bumps to lower fore corners.
Attractive and sound copy despite a few library marks. Tissue-guarded
frontispiece portrait of Capt. Anderson.    $60
