A full complement of traditional, turn-of-the-century Creole recipies, most 
suitable for preparation today. Introduction by S. Weir Mitchell. Eight of 
Harper Pennington's black & white plates with tissue guards imprinted with 
musical staff and notation, assumed to be relevant, contemporary music: the 
introduction explains that singing was used as a "timer" in Creole cooking: 
a given number of verses of a given song was a specific cooking time. 4 
pages of advertisments in the back. Illustrated boards. No DJ, as-issued.

Old booksellers' notations on rear pastedown and endpaper. Title and author 
name faded on covers,
as-expected for this title. Slight soiling and staining to paper-covered 
boards. Spine ends and corners bumped. Tail of spine end and front upper 
corner slightly tattered. Hinges splitting, but intact. Clean, bright
