1.  HOLDSWORTH, W.S.  A History of English Law. Volume One [only].
Methuen & Co., 36 Essex Street W.C., London, 1903.  Original cloth,
a bit of wear, some pencilling, yet a fresh copy. [67585 L72EL73]

First edition of the first volume of Holdsworth's monumental
history, devoted to the English courts and their operation, to
reach a seventh edition in 1956 and in its entirety achieve
completion in 1972, almost three decades after Holdsworth's death.

The only index to the entirety of Holdsworth's History of English
Law, the "treasure house of learning" which began to appear in
1903, had reached twelve volumes by his death in 1945, and, from
his typescript and manuscript, was completed in 1966.
