ARMSTRONG, LOUIS. AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED (ANS) IN AN AUTOGRAPH ALBUM.
A small autograph album (5-3/4" x 4-3/4") with many autographs
including a sheet SIGNED and INSCRIBED in his characteristic green ink
by the jazz great: "to 'Tommy'/'man' I prespire [sic] so/much until I
have to/use lots of handkerchiefs/Louis Armstrong/Satchmo." Also
SIGNED by the following members of Armstrong's band: singer Velma
Middleton (pencil), drummer Barrett Deems (pencil), anchor for Louis
Armstrong's bands (Armstrong used to call him "The Kid") and once
billed as "the world's fastest drummer," pianist Billy Kyle (pencil),
trombonist Trummy Young (pencil), and bassist Squire Gersh (pencil).
SIGNED additionally by a number of members of the 1962 cast of THE
MUSIC MAN including Harry Hickox. The owner of this album was a
musician who participated in a production of the musical. A superb
example of Armstrong with not only his full name and his nickname but
also a wonderful reference to his trademark handkerchief. Near Fine $850
