Sheldon, Colonel Harold P. TRANQUILLITY [with] TRANQUILLITY REVISITED
[and] TRANQUILLITY REGAINED.

West Hartford, Vermont; The Countryman Press: 1945. Edition limited to 475
sets in which 'Tranquillity Regained' is signed by the author and the
artist.

The first two volumes of this set were first published by the Derrydale
Press in 1936 and 1940, but next to those scarce printings, this signed
and limited publication is a favorite edition of these hunting classics.

Sheldon was a Vermonter who served in World War I and later was Vermont
Commissioner of Fish and Game as well as Chief U.S. Game Warden with the
Bureau of Biological Survey. He was also a prolific writer, and many of
his stories were centered around the fictional town of Tranquillity,
"buttressed by the soft gray limestone ledges of the Lower Champlain
country" and only a league or so west of the Green Mountains of Vermont.
Many of these stories first appeared in Field and Stream, The Sportsman
(where he was an editor), National Sportsman, and Outdoor Life. Sheldon
was also a friend and favored hunting companion of the legendary Nash
Buckingham, who contributed the Foreword to the first volume.

Hardcover. 3 volumes. 5.5"x8", 194, 186, 160 pages; 3 color plates and
many line illustrations by Arthur D. Fuller. Covers with some soil,
bookplates; text just a little browned. [04825] $150.00
