HOLIDAY, BILLIE AND DUFTY, WILLIAM. LADY SINGS THE BLUES. Garden City: 
Doubleday 1956. Illustrated with photographic endpapers and containing 
a chronological discography at the end. Early but not first printing 
of this autobiography of perhaps the most influential jazz singer of 
all time, INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author/singer on the half-title 
page "For Nate/Best of Everything/Billie Holiday." Co-authored by 
William Dufty, this book was made into a film starring Diana Ross as 
Holiday. One does not need Ken Burns to describe how good Holiday was. 
Just listen to her renditions of "Lover Man" or "Everything Happens To 
Me." A very scarce signature, especially in a book and in this 
condition. Fine in Near Fine dustwrapper and quite uncommon.  $4500
