The more things change, the more they stay the same...

[Stoddard, William Osborn]. "THE ROYAL DECREES OF SCANDEROON"  New York;
Russells' American Steam Printing House: 1869.

"Dedicated by the author to the Sachems of Tammany, and to the other Grand
Magnorums of Manhattan". A satirical attack at Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall
in the guise of the King of Scanderoon and his great Magnorums; the King
listens to the complaints of the people, agrees that they are just, and
decrees that -

       "Dreamers and fools, the thing is so;
        And a thing of evil it is, I know...
        Therefore, henceforth and forevermore,
        The thing shall be as it was before...".

In other words, you can't fight City Hall.

Hardcover. 5"x7", 45 pages plus 5 b/w plates drawn by Speer. Brick-red
pebbled cloth with a gilt head of the King of Scanderoon on the cover.
Light soil and wear, small marginal stain, but overall a very nice copy.
[04732] $50.00
