for the London Society of Cabinet Makers. Second edition (1793) issued in
1000 copies. With corrected and clarified text and 9 plates in addition to
the first edition - three by William Casement, a little-known
cabinet-maker, and six by Hepplewhite (not George [dead by 1787], but
someone with the firm of Alice Hepplewhite & Co). With 26 pages of
tables. ESTC T120479, Goldsmiths' 15605, OCLC notes 6 Locs. In the USA,
[BKL, VH$, SMI, DLM, VCW, VG8] and 1 in the UK [AVA] COPAC finds also at
Manchester, BL, Nat. Lib.Scotland. This copy includes, as a bookplate,
a portrait of George Washington. It is an unusual one because it was
engraved by Samuel Dodd, of Newark, NJ [1797-1862]. Also, loosely laid into
the book is the pictorial, engraved, certificate of membership in "The New
York Benevolent Society of Journeymen Cabinetmakers" for George Lansdown,
signed by the President, D. Turner and the treasurer, Andrew Anderson,
dated August 24th, 1841. It testifies to the books long tenure in the New
York area. Orig. calf boards, rebacked in modern calf, Mro. title piece,
