Near fine. Collated complete. This 3rd edition has been rebacked in 
calf with a new red leather label, the boards are original calf. 
Original boards have minor wear to edges.  Tight binding.  Evenly

This 4th edition was signed 3x by John Endicott. He was a ship master 
out of Salem and 6th generation from Governor John Endecott 
(1588-1665). The original calf binding has some rub marks and 
scratches and short tears at upper rear hinge.  Leather is worn away 
at bottom of spine. Plate VI is detached but present; pages 1-88 of 
Tables are coming loose.  The fold out Chart of the Atlantic Ocean is 
split halfway down one fold, but with no loss.  Campbell lists 11

was signed by Daniel L. Winsor of Duxbury MA, a ship captain and 
cotton merchant who sailed out of Boston and New Orleans. His papers 
are at Lousiana State University. Original calf binding with some rub 
marks and scratches; bottom corners worn through.  Spine is cracked 
at center with tear at the top. Minimal foxing.  Missing pages 17-24 
of Tables. All plates in fine condition. Campbell lists 10 library

Fine. This Tenth edition, has very little foxing and the plates are 
all fine. 3/4 " missing at extreme top of title page. This edition 
marks the first time there were two editions printed in the same 
year. There is a notice about the death of Nathaniel Bowditch on the 
verso of the title page. This is a very rare edition, according to

This 27th edition has a notice to Shipmasters on front pastedown, 
dated 1858, re. the use of old charts vs the use of recent, reliable 
charts by Blunt.   Two signatures; Hiram Brown, Cape Elizabeth and 
Andrew T. Forbes, Brunswick, ME 1859.   Beautifully rebound in dark

& Co, Boston.  The instructions to the binder for the placement of 
the plates was not followed exactly; Plate 9/pg120, Plate10/pg136, 
Plate11/pg144, Plate12/pg152, Plate13/pg156 and Plate14/pg426.  All

split to one fold and a small tear, with one inch lost in the 
margin.) 13 other plates and 56 tables. Also includes a fold out 
Longitude and Latitude chart and 2 pages of advertisements. All 
plates are fine. Thirty Third edition. 8vo. [[ii],-8-xix, 289, 460, 
[2] pgs] Very good. This 33rd edition has original 3/4 black leather 
and brown cloth binding.  The cloth edges are worn.  The spine has a 
raised bands with gilt lettering.  The contents are very tight, 
bright and clean. Plate 14 is set at pg 428. According to Campbell, 
only one copy of this edition was known to exist at the time of his 
writing the bibliography. Lawrence W. Jenkins, Director Emeritus of 
The Peabody Museum in Salem, MA, had searched in vain for it for 25 
years. it was believed, by collectors, to be non-existent. But 
Campbell found it at Chatham, Cape Cod in 1955. It was a beat-up copy 
without the fold-out chart and with its boards falling off. He was 
very happy to find it. Campbell pp 8 & 9. Rare Civil War Edition.

fine. Thirty Fourth edition. Full calf. 8vo. [[ii],-8-xix, 289, 460, 
[2] pgs] Good-very good. This 34th edition was inscribed on the FFEP 
with "presented me by H.N. Hixace, May 12, 1918, this belonged to 
Capt. Symonds of Salem, Mass".  There was a Captain Symonds of Salem 
MA, who was a member of Company B, Fifteenth Massachusetts and was 
captured at Ball's Bluff. Later he was killed at Antietem. Original 
tree calf binding.  The joints are cracked, but the boards are not 
detached.  The spine is stained above and below the red label and is 
chipped at the stain.  No foxing. Speckled edges.According to 
Campbell, only one copy of this edition was known to exist, at the 
time of his writing the bibliography. It is at The Peabody Museum in 
Salem, MA. Rare Civil War Edition. Campbell pp. 97-98. OCLC lists

foxing. Thirty fifth edition. Full calf. Signed by C. Tatham (?). 
8vo. [[ii],-8-xix, 289, 460, [2] pgs] Very good. This 35th edition 
has been rebound in dark brown leather with a red label on the spine, 
with new end papers but retaining the original end papers. The last 
25 pages are lightly damp-stained on the upper half of each page, the 
original end papers are also stained.  Otherwise this edition is very 
clean and tight. According to Campbell, the only known copy of this 
edition is in the Peabody Museum in Salem, MA. Rare Civil War
