edition of 1000 numbered copies of which this is #256. Published by F.
Bruckmann, München, [1922]. Facsimile reprint of the rare Weimar edition.
65, [3]pp (on uncut single-sided leaves) + 20 leaves of color plates by
Johann Georg Schutz (1755-1813). 4to (10" x 8.5"). Bound in the original
cloth-backed boards. A wonderful book showing the costumes worn by
celebrants in a Roman carnival and masked ball, circa 1780. The plates

boards with gilt toolwork and blue leather insets. Small tears to spine and
cover slightly soiled. Minor foxing. Chapters: The White Rose; The Soirée;

Edward Walker, Newcastle, for T. Bewick: Sold by Him, and Longman and Rees,
London, 1804. xxx, [2], 335, [1]; xx, 400pp Non-uniform bindings: Vol. 1 in
full, green leather; Vol. 2 in half leather with marbled boards. Really
ought to be rebound as the hinges are cracked and boards loose. Bookplate on
front pastedown of Vol. 1: Edwin De Turck Bechtel. Vol. 2 lacking pp 83-84.
Many woodcuts by Bewick‹almost every other page‹with beautiful detail. A

Eustachii, 1773. 8, 68, [2]pp + [3] leaves of engraved plates, including the
illustrated title page. Signatures: *4 A-B4 pi4 C4 E-G4 H2 I4 pi1 The ["D"]
gathering is located before "C" but the pagination is correct. Last leaf of
text contains errata. Contemporary full vellum with gold toolwork‹a central
arabesque design, enclosed in several frames, highlighted with floral
ornaments. Marbled endpapers. Astle Library copy. An inscription on a slip
tipped in states that this copy was sent to England from Rome by Count
Caprari [ Caspari ?] in Poland‹perhaps this is the only Copy of this edition
which came to England. This edition is much rarer than the version issued
without credit to Vito Maria Giovenazi (1727-1805), by Paul Jacob Bruns in
Hamburg (1773). An appealing example of fine printing and classical
