WILLIAMS, William Carlos [Jack MICHELINE]. TYPED LETTER
SIGNED to Jack Micheline. Rutherford, NJ: 30 May 1958. Brief
Typed Letter SIGNED by Williams to Beat writer Jack
Micheline. In full: "I am overwhelmed by my correspondence
and other reading, I cannot take you on, as Pound says, you
must seek your friends among the younger writers. I'll file
your poems away but you'll have to excuse me from reading
them at present." One of the younger writers Micheline
sought, and successfully so, was Jack Kerouac who wrote the
introduction to Micheline's first book, RIVER OF RED WINE,
published in 1957, referring to Micheline as the "Doctor
Johnson Zen Master Magee of Innisfree." Several minor
corrections to the text in Williams's hand. Near Fine with
envelope. $1500
