Second issuance of the first English translation of a work placed
"among the classics of English constitutional theory", written in
the late 15th century, highly popular, and the first work to
examine extensively trial by jury and the Inns of Court.

2.  HECKETHORN, Charles William.  Lincoln's Inn Fields and the
Localities Adjacent: Their Historical and Topographical

London, 1896.  Original brown buckram, gilt, occasional foxing, and
just a bit worn, some light staining to the lower portion of the

A substantial work worthy of the attention of any serious student
of the Inn's history and topography, divided into five geographical
parts (the compass' four points plus the central block); with some
75 illustrations by Alfred Beaver and others.

Sotheby's November 9, 1978 sale at Hodgson's Rooms, Chancery Lane,
with 21 lots from the library of Lincoln's Inn, primarily materials
printed by local historical societies; with the estimates and
prices realized lists laid in.

The copy presented by Lincoln's Inn to Chetham's Library,
Manchester, with its pictorial bookplate recording the presentation
on the front pastedown and its discreet circular ownership stamp
elsewhere.

The uncommon, mid-nineteenth century catalogue of the library,
issued some two years after the opening in 1861 of the new
library--"a Gothic building of rather unwieldy proportions"--with
the manuscripts separately listed; three copies in OCLC.

9.  WALKER, J. Douglas.  Short Notes on Lincoln's Inn. Bland
454.  N.p., [London], 1906.  Original printed sewn wraps, a bit
dusty and marked and unevenly faded, else a good copy; 16 pages
and one plate with an indentifying sheet appended. [71047 L78]

An uncommon work seemingly prompted by the effort to save the Watts
Fresco (entitled "A Hemicycle of Lawgivers"), the first real fresco
on any public wall in England; with a full-page color plate
reproducing the fresco and identifying its figures.

With two plates, both somewhat stained, one serving as the
frontispiece and depicting Temple Bar at the outset of the 18th
century, the other at mid-century in 1746, following the Jacobite
Rebellion.
