HARCOUET DE LONGEVILLE; ROBERT SANDER, translator and author of a long
Masonic forward.: LONG LIVERS : A CURIOUS HISTORY OF SUCH PERSONS OF BOTH

/ by Eugenius Philalethes
... liv, lvii-lxiv, 199, viii, [1] p. ; 20 cm. (8vo) Publisher: London :
Printed for J. Holland ... and L.
Stokoe ..., 1722. An extra leaf. xxxviv/xl; is placed between leaves liv
and lvii, otherwise complete
as described. This book is a medical and occult work on long life and on
rejuvenation. It is probably
the most complete chronicle of all those who were traditionally known to
have lived long lives, or
even more, seemed to become young again half way through very long lives.
The masonic
introduction seems to want to connect being a Mason with this possibility
of rejuvenation. Caillet II,
6782, 6783, under Longeville, for the French editions. He notes that at the
end, The Method of Arnold
of Villanova for rejuvenation is given; that is pure magic. Occult
collectors have an urge to get this
title and their suppliers go into 4 figures on it. Here it is priced as a
rarity and medical curiosity.
