I would like to thank Mr. Agvent for reminding me of Godwin's birthday.
This is a stock list except for the first item, which is a new arrival.

1.	GODWIN, WILLIAM: DELORAINE. Philadelphia, Carey, Lea & Blanchard, 1833.
2 v. ; 21 cm. Godwin's last novel, in the First American Edition, same year
as the English first. This novel, together with Mandeville (1817), and
Cloudesley was one of his most popular works. It is not especially rare in
the London First, but only 11 copies are known of that published in
America. CBEL II, 655, noting only the English edition; OCLC finds 13
copies at American libraries. Original paper covered boards, rose colored
cloth backstrips printed paper labels externally VG-, OW VG. $1035.00

2.	GODWIN, WILLIAM: LIVES OF THE NECROMANCERS, or, an account of the most
eminent persons in successive ages, who have claimed for themselves, or to
whom has been imputed by others, the exercise of magical power. ~London:
Frederick J. Mason, 1834. First edition. lxx,465 pp. Octavo. Godwin gave as
his purpose for writing this book "to exhibit a fair delineation of the
credulity of the human mind." He begins his survey with an account of
ancient superstitions and ends it with the New England witch trials at the
end of the seventeenth century. It is the last work Godwin published in his
lifetime. While telling the history, Godwin has the first shot in the
attempt to resuscitate the reputations of such renaissance neoplatonic
philosophers as Agrippa Von Nettesheim, John Dee, Faust [whom he treats as
a historical figure] and others. All of whom, he believes had tales told
about them such as the populat mind could make up, which would fit their
eremitic life style and high accomplishments in the sciences, some of which
were occult, such as alchemy and astrology. Godwin was strong in his
denunciation of witch baiting. Sabin 27675, CBEL II, 655. Period quarter
calf, pebbled boards, gilt Dec. spine, gilt title, edges and Eps marbled.
With the bookplate of Francis W. Barney. Very Good. $700.00

one of the very first modern feminists adds much to our picture of her.

by William Godwin In two volumes. Philadelphia : A. Small, 1818.2 vols. 23
x 15 cm. The 2nd American Edition, the first came out in 1795. By 1816
several of Godwin's former friends were newly shamed by the part they
played in stirring up anti-Jacobin fear and hatred of Godwin in 1799. Sir
James Mackintosh, for one, now wrote a eulogy on Godwin's earlier writings,
calling Caleb Williams the finest novel produced in England since The Vicar
of Wakefield. Godwin was able to arrange for re-publication of both Caleb
Williams and St. Leon in late 1815. They had been unavailable for many
years. Accoring to St.Clair:"They were rushed out quickly to catch the
interest which had been generated..Using some of the Shelley money, he
financed the printing costs himself and then sold the stock to a publisher.
He did not read the books through again." In a new preface Godwin noted he
made some corrections to the text though not substantial changes, See W.
