written (much to the author's stated chagrin) in colloquial form
with human characters & dialogue -- 140 illustrations by various
artists (B. Lander drew the excellent frontis) enhance this
exuberant entomologist's explorations of farm & meadow, observing
ants, bees, butterflies, crickets, moths, spiders, & other of the
farm's 'tenants' -- English language.  Later Printing.
Hardcover.  No dust jacket (none issued).  460 pages: Index, 140
black & white illustrations.  Binding height: 7-3/8".  Full
pictorial cloth, title etc.  silver-stamped.  Book Good: usual
library trappings, end papers split at hinges (hinges still
strong, though), heavy bumping & rubbing to fore-corners & spine-
