Reid, James. EARLY ROADS AND TRANSPORT, ANCIENT AND MODERN.

Aberdeen; self-published: 1930s.

Evidently an unpublished manuscript, by the author of another
privately-printed book on the subject- "The Evolution of Horse-Drawn
Vehicles". The text roams from ancient times through the Middle Ages and
19th century and into the first decades of the 20th century. The
illustrations appear to be from a variety of other published sources,
books and magazines. Although never published, the manuscript evidently
has some scholarly value, as the author's other book was published by the
Institute of British Carriage and Automobile Manufacturers and got good
notices in the Times Literary Supplement (tipped in at the back).

Hardcover. 8"x10.5", 182 pages of single-sided carbon-copied typescript;
plus 17 card pages with pasted-on illustrations; pasted-in photograph of
the author; bound in full pebbled leather with gilt titles; light wear,
some soil. [03062] $350.00
