For Sale from Up-Country Letters, South Lake Tahoe, California:

 

(American Periodical)  Putnam's Magazine, Volumes I-4.  January, 1853 to December, 1854. Twenty Four monthly issues bound without the wrappers in four volumes, with a general title and table of contents in each. Green leather over paper-covered boards, raised bands, gilt-lettered. Some rubbing, some flaking of paper at edges. Contributors are anonymous but we have Henry David Thoreau's Excursion to Canada  serialized in four parts, complete (Parkman Dexter Howe Library, Part 2, 1984) and Herman Melville's Bartleby, The Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street in two parts, complete; his The Encantadas, or Enchanted Isles in three parts, complete; and The Lightning Rod Man (PDH Library, Part 6, 1989). There is light foxing in places but the above named are free from it. A Very Good set.   $450
