Dana, Richard Henry, Jr.   An Address Upon the Life and Services of Edward Everett...  Cambridge: (Privately printed for George Livermore), 1865.  First edition. Quarto, black half morocco, marbled boards, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, original green printed wrappers bound in.  Extra illustrated with forty plates. Binder's (M. Rimell) instructions in pencil throughout. One of fifty large paper copies (BAL 4462, state B). Inscribed to "Hon. John R. Bartlett / from his friend / George Livermore". John Russell Bartlett was an antiquarian and bibliographer from Providence, R.I.  He published the "Dictionary of Americanisms" (1848), "Bibliography of Rhode Island" (1864), and the "John Carter Brown Catalogue" (1865-1882). He is sometimes confused with John Bartlett of Cambridge who wrote "Familiar Quotations" (1855).    $600

 

Dana, Richard Henry, Jr.   Autograph letter, signed.  Dated August 10, 1859. The letter, in full: "Dear Sir, You need not trouble yourself to send me the German original of (illegible's) Cicero, as I wish it for my son who does not read German, and have borrowed the translation for him of Professor (Gomez?). Yours truly, Rich. H. Dana, Jr. Two pages of laid paper with black bordering, folded for mailing. A Fine copy.   $225
