HAWTHORNE, Nathaniel. THE COMPLETE WORKS OF NATHANIEL
HAWTHORNE. Boston: Houghton Mifflin 1891. Complete 25-volume
set in small octavo (5" x 7-5/8") of the Wayside Edition
nicely bound in red half morocco with matching corners and
marbled boards, five raised bands, gilt lettering and
decorations on the spines, matching marbled endpapers, top
edges gilt. With introductory notes by George Parsons
Lathrop and illustrated with etchings by Blum, Church,
Dielman, Gifford, Shirlaw, and Turner. Generally minor wear
with occasional rubbing and bumping to corners; occasional
neat hinge repair. Two spines lightly worn, not quite
chipped, with the word "Works" crudely relettered in gilt on
one spine. Armorial bookplate of Justine Bayard Cutting on
the front pastedown of each volume. Very Good or better and
quite attractive on the shelf. $2000.00
