Greenfield Books has recently acquired a small collection of material
dealing mainly with polar exploration. We will be offering several of
the more interesting, or valuable, items to this list before they are
offered for sale generally.

DEBENHAM, Frank./ IN THE ANTARCTIC Stories of Scott's Last Expedition/.
Bound in snowflake patterned cream cloth. John Murray, London. 1952. 1st
edition, hb, small 8vo, pp. vii, 146. With illustrations by Edward
Wilson and the author, including maps to endpapers.

Debenham was a geologist to, and junior member of, what is now known,
rather romantically, as Scott's Last Expedition. His reminiscences were
published many years after the events they describe, and perforce draw
heavily upon (as the author acknowledges) /The South Polar Times/, which
the members of the expedition published for their own amusement during
the three years of the expedition. This in-house irregular periodical
was mainly illustrated by Dr. Edward Wilson, some of whose illustrations
are reproduced in this book. Rather than dwell on the more morbid
aspects of the ill-fated expedition, Debenham deals "..chiefly with the
lighter side of those fateful yet happy three years and [I] have
addressed myself mainly to a new generation." The book is in very good
condition, with only the slightest of visible soiling. The dust jacket
has been price-clipped on the flap and is chipped at the crown of the
spine, with a few small closed tears and a touch of soiling; else it is
in good plus
condition.

Price: $175.00.

Terms of Sale - The price is net in US funds. Payment by check or credit
card (MasterCard, VISA, AMEX). Postage and packing charge $7 in North
America; $10 overseas. Returnable within seven days of receipt if not as
described.
