First edition of a reformist, even populist, work, seemingly
inspired by the enactment of the Field Code in 1849, informal and
straight-forward in tone and dedicated to, among others, the
state's farmers and mechanics; uncommon, five copies in OCLC.

Sheppard's highly useful, even essential, handbook well explaining
how justices should go about issuing warrants, and what those
warrants should contain, providing information previously
unobtainable, and part of Sheppard's reform efforts.

An unusual instance of an intensely practical work written by an
appellate court judge, in this case appearing about midway through
Richardson's tenure as Chief Justice of New Hampshire for over two
decades; not in the 1909 Harvard Law Catalogue.

First edition of the only legal work of Scroggs, one-time Chief
Justice of King's Bench, detailing the working of the local or
franchise courts whose jurisdiction was as wide as English rural
life; one copy only in RLIN in this country (at Harvard).

Joseph Chitty's copy of the first edition of Boscawen's pioneering
treatise, authoritatively examining the summary powers of justices
of the peace to try and convict without a jury, a subject neglected
by Burn and others in their earlier treatises.

century in this country, arranging the law alphabetically by
subject; this edition contains the revenue laws leading to the
