1.  [ANCIENT WELSH LAW].  William Probert (trans.).  The Ancient
Laws of Cambria: Containing the Institutional Triads of Dyvnwal
Moelmud, the Laws of Howel the Good, Triadical Commentaries, Code
of Education, and the Hunting Laws of Wales, to Which are Added,
the Historical Triads of Britain.  Sold by E. Williams, No. 11,

The first English translation, (and incidentally the first
valuation of dogs in Britain), of the Laws of Howell the Good,
which date to the ninth century and were recently described as "the
greatest intellectual achievement of mediaeval Wales".

First edition of Maine's magnum opus, a work recently described as
"[n]ext only to Blackstone . . . the most durable work of
jurisprudence in the English language", influential upon Holmes,

The first major response to the work of Selden which David
Berkowitz termed "his greatest work [and] one of the triumphs of
Renaissance learning", this second edition providing Tillesley's
further response to Selden's privately circulated reply.

The Parliament convened at the height of the perceived threat of
Mary Queen of Scots to Elizabeth, the law of treason strengthened
and the penalties upon those attempting to rescue those held, as
Mary was, on charges of treason expressly enhanced.

Act to explain, amend, and reduce into One Act of Parliament, the
general Laws now in being, for regulating the Turpike Roads in that
Part of Great Britain called England [etc.]. Folio.  Printed by

The all-important consolidating act, bringing together the
scattered statutory evolution of the first part of the century and
earlier, to be the basis for turnpike roads well into the 19th
