For your consideration. The Pearland and the Pumpkin, by Paul West and W. W.
Denslow, Illustrated by W.W. Denslow, Published by  G.W. Dillingham, N.Y.
1904: Wonderful children's fantasy of Pumpkins, witches, faries, mermaids,
pirates, mariners and even Mother Carey's Chickens. First edition; 16 full
color plates; two color text illustrations (throughout); verso of title page
states 1904; pale blue illustrated end papers. W.W. Denslow by Douglas G.
Greene & Michael Hearn, state: Dillingham copies have endpaper designs
printed in either pale blue, or in orange and black. Priority is uncertain,
but the pale blue variant is probably earlier. Bound in pale green cloth,
green lettering, pastedown illustration of Mariner and sailor in color. Chip
to right corner of pastedown, 1/2 inch; bright color, few tiny rub marks.
Age soil, spine reinforced, darkened, fraying to upper and lower spine ends,
rubbing of corners. Front and rear hinges cracked, text block secure in
binding. Inscription to e.p. Page 19 & 103 have short closed edge tear.
Beautiful vivid illustrations throughout, random finger smudges and few
short closed edge tears. Full page illustrations: He was an Old man;
"Witches in the Cornfield!"; Each bearing a Jack-lantern on the end of a
bean pole; "Such a Howl! The pirates demanded more."; "Take this talisman,"
said the Fairy"; "Don't touch me," she cried.; "What if Joe should get ripe
and burst! Mercy!; "Sh, Bridget, they may hear you."; Down, Down the
plunged, Pearl clinging to Joe's hand; The found Pearl seated in a coral
chair; Pearl, meanwhile, was guest of honor at dinner; The Corn Dodger dove
in; The sea-horses now began to rear and plunge; "The Corn Dodger must be
found, said Neptune; The Piratical crew started on a run with Captain Kidd
leading; "Pumpkin-Head, I command you approach". Clear text. A wonderful
