The owner [of the signature] had just bought a small pocket comb and
nail file set in a leather case, which was still in its box, when he
happened to meet, or rather see, Ty Cobb walking down the street when
he was a young man in the thirties. He asked Ty Cobb for his
autograph and he graciously said yes but he did not have anything to
write on, and the young man had only the box he had just purchased
upon which to write it! The gentleman with Cobb also signed his name,
Bernie Walker.

Tyrus Raymond Cobb was born 1886 in Narrows, Georgia and he died in
Atlanta, Georgia in 1961. He played for the Detroit Tigers,
Philadelphia and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1936. He is
considered to be one of baseball's greatest players, and a fierce
competitor. On May 5, 1925, Ty Cobb collected 16 total bases (three
home runs, a double and two singles), setting a single-game American
League record that has yet to be surpassed. $450.00
