GOTHIC & RENAISSANCE BOOKBINDINGS.
Exemplified and Illustrated from the Author's Collection.

by E. Ph. Goldschmidt.
London; Ernest Benn, Ltd.: 1928.

Quite simply one of the best references to Gothic and
Renaissance bindings. The author lived and breathed
bindings -

"my interest in old bookbindings and the
accumulation of notes, which have now been
incorporated into this book, go back for so
many years that I find it difficult to observe the
usual custom and to offer my thanks to all those
who have encouraged or helped my studies".

Goldschmidt goes on to thank quite a few noted bibliophiles,
and to admit that he gained entry to a great many notable libraries
in the course of his research. A splendid reference work.

Hardcover. 2 volumes. 9"x11.5", 369 + viii pages, plus a colored
frontispiece and 110 b/w plates. A fine set -a little dry, but
otherwise clean, crisp and nice. [00332] $650.00
