Woodcut device on title. Early calf, rebacked, with the old spine laid down. Edges 
of the boards are worn. Title page a bit soiled, and with a library stamp at

The first Latin edition of this important early work on the New World. Our 
1578 edition adds the translation (by L. Apollonius) of Nicolas Le Chailleux’s “
Discours de L’Histoire de Floride.” Benzoni, in 1541 (at the age of 22), 
left Italy to visit the New World, where he spent 14 years. He returned to Italy 
and published his “Historia del Mondo Nuovo” in 1565. Sabin 4792. European
