BOURRIT, M. T. /A RELATION OF A JOURNEY TO THE GLACIERS IN THE DUTCHY OF
SAVOY/. Beautiful recent re-bind in full leather, three copper plates.
Printed for G. Robinson, London. 1776. 2nd edition, 12mo, pp. 266. The
spine is in compartments, with raised bands, gilt rules, and gilt lettering.

Marc-Theodore Bourrit (1739-1819), a Geneva naturalist, raconteur, and
painter - but not much of a climber (except, perhaps, of the social
variety) was, at the time this book was first published, the Presentor
of the Cathedral Church of Geneva.
First published in French in 1773, and in English in 1775. Translated
from the French by Chas. and Fred. Davy [sic]. With
armorial presentation plate tipped-in from the translators to Mrs.
Richard Walpole; followed by Editor's Preface, Postcript, Author's
Advertisement, A Table of the Drawings, Table of Contents, Table of
Heights Above the Level of the Mediterraean Sea, complete List of
Subscribers, and The Author's Preliminary Discourse (pp. i - xxi). The
three copper engraved plates are foxed; the contents less so (although
with typical age-toning to margins. The text is otherwise clean and
tight, save for a blotchy old copperplate ink signature to the top right
of the title page (not affecting text). Overall, a most handsome book in
excellent condition, gaving regard to age. Digital photos available.

Price: $750.00.
