Hill, Levi, A Treatise on Heliochromy; or, the production of pictures, by
means of light, in natural colors.....

New York, Robinson & Caswell 1856 1st ed., 8vo., original decorated black
cloth with cover title in gilt. Very light foxing
throughout; semicircular water stain just above text. Binding tight and
gilt title quite bright with only a very small bit of loss to just one
letter. Overall a very presentable copy. (Of the few copies I've seen of
this title in 25 years of interest in the history of photography, all have
had some water staining as the book was typically used by photographers in
their wet darkrooms, and all have at least light foxing.)

Hill's A Treatise on Heliochromy is a very early incunabulum of the subject
of color photography, and might be considered the Gutenberg BIble of color
photography as it is the first published book on the subject.

$3500 ppd in the US
