"...there has existed hitherto no work in any language which deals
systematically with the theory and facts of representative money as it
exists in the modern world." Keynes (1883-1946) wrote this monumental
and immensely important work after many years of involvment with both
academic and governmental elites who were either trying to make sense
out of, or manipulate for advantage, the tumultuous economic
consequences of the First World War. It preceded the equally influential
/General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money/ (1936). Volume I is
entitled The Pure Theory of Money; and volume II is entitled The Applied
Theory of Money.
