Thompson, G.A. THE GEOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL DICTIONARY OF AMERICA AND
THE WEST INDIES. Containing an Entire Translation of the Spanish Work of
Colonel Don Antonio de Alcedo, with Large Additions and Compilations from
Modern Voyages and Travels, and from Original and Authentic Information.

New York; Burt Franklin: 1970. A facsimile of Thompson's revised and
augmented 1812-15 edition, considered superior to Alcedo's original Spanish
edition which was published in the 1780s. It is nothing more or less than
an encyclopedia of the history and geography of the Americas, and although
the work has a heavy emphasis on Spanish material, there is also much on
Canada and English America. 5 volumes. Hardcovers. 7.5"x10.5", xx + 574
pages; 597 pages; 512 pages; 636 pages; xlii + 462 + 105 pages; folding
chart; near fine. [06084] $300.00
