HOOVER, Herbert. THE NEW DAY. CAMPAIGN SPEECHES OF HERBERT HOOVER
1928. Stanford University: Stanford University Press (1929). Second
Edition. SIGNED by Hoover as President on the front free endpaper.
Enclosed is the original mailing label from the White House as well
as an envelope and letter from Hoover's secretary forwarding the
book. Decorative leather bookplate of Harry J. Sonneborn on the front
pastedown. Most of Sonneborn's impressive Americana collection,
including a number of books signed by Presidents, was sold by
Sotheby's in 1980. Tape shadows on both pastedowns and endpapers, not
affecting the signature. An uncommon book, especially when signed.
Books signed by Hoover as President are much scarcer than those
signed after he left office. Near Fine, lacking the uncommon
dustwrapper. $500.00
