London: The Times, 1952. First printing, Full cloth, Quarto, xiv, 69 pages,
Black & white and color photographic plates. Good.
      History of the American military presence in England during World War
II, memorials erected in England in their honor, and the memorial American
Chapel constructed at St. Paul's Cathedral in the early 1950s. The chapel
contains the "Roll of Honour" of 28,000 Americans who were killed in World
War II operations based in the UK and this book was produced for
presentation to the next of kin of each of those 28,000 as well as other
appropriate people. This is General Matthew B. Ridgway's copy, SIGNED by him
on front free endpaper, and was acquired with several other books which came
from the auction of the Ridgway estate. Typed note signed by John J. Astor
of The Times presenting the book to Ridgway is stapled to top edge of half
title. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with gilt stamped spine and
upper board lettering. Minor extremity bumps and wear, approximately 1" area
of mild staining to upper board along spine.    $250.00
