Garay, Martin de; Murat, Achille. Spain. Junta Suprema de Gobierno
[Junta Suprema Central Gubernativa del Reino]. MANIFIESTO DE LA
NACION ESPANOLA A LA EUROPA. [Mexico City]: [Fernandez de Jaure],
(1809). 36 pp. 8vo. Paper wrappers. n.ed. Latin American pamphlets
from the Yale University Library: Mexico [Series I].
An appeal to other European powers to combine for the overthrow of
Napoleon. Published in a number of locations. "Apendice" (p. 29-36)
includes three letters from Prince Murat to General Dupont. To the
third letter is attached "Circular a los capitanes generales
espanoles." The "Manifiesto" is dated and signed (in facsimile): Real
palacio del Alcazar de Sevilla 1.o de enero de 1809. Martin de Garay,
secretario general de la Junta suprema.
Martin de Garay received the following from Wellington on July 3,
1809 "...I have the pleasure to inform your Excellency, that the
advanced guard passed the frontier this day; the army will follow
to-morrow and the following days; and no time shall be lost in
placing ourselves in communication with General Cuesta. I shall be
much concerned if, in the intermediate time, the enemy should fall
with his whole concentrated force on General Cuesta or General
Vanegas. But as both these Generals are aware of the superiority of
the enemy's strength, and the former, in particular, is aware of my
near approach to him, I conclude that each of them will have placed
themselves in such a situation, as that the misfortune which your
Excellency apprehends cannot occur. I have the honor to be, &c. '
ARTHUR WELLESLEY."
Lacks title leaf, rebound in marbled wrappers, worming to lower
margin not affecting text, some faded dampstains, shadow of small
label on rear endpaper. Scarce. [25728] $150.00

Charles Kutcher
