(circa 1740). Folio (15-1/4” tall). 12 ornate engravings, including the very
decorative title page. The following 11 plates, each with title (“Fontaine”, “
Naufrage”, “Cascade”, “Le Palais de Pluton”, etc.). Bound in 19th century red
calf over mottled paper covered boards, spine extremities a bit worn. One
plate, “Les Fruits de L’Automne,” slightly smaller in size (top & bottom margins a
bit trimmed), and with a small repair at top inner margin. $2,000.00

A very scarce book of engravings after the painter Jacques de Lajoue
(1687-1761) known for paintings of landscape, ornament, and architectural subjects.
The engravings here depict people (often nudes) and animals in fantastic
settings, many with architectural details. Berlin Katalog #414. OCLC records only 2
copies.
