1.  ADDISON, JOSEPH, STEELE, RICHARD ET AL.  GUARDIAN AND THE 
SPECTATOR UNIFORMLY BOUND, THE. London., 1797. Illustrated by a 
woodcut frontispiece in each bound volume. 10 volumes. Full 
contemporary calf with red leather label. Only fault lies in the 
absence or looseness of several labels. Near fine. Complete run 
consisting of Volume I and II no. 1-176 of The Guardian (all 
published) and Volume I-VIII, nos. 1-635 of The Spectator. They were 
originally published in 1710-14. This was a daily periodical largely 
written by Addison and Steele, but a few others contributed. Among 
these were Alexander Pope and Lady Montagu. Amazingly tight and clean 
with no foxing.  $650.00

2.  BEATTIE, WILLIAM.  SWITZERLAND ILLUSTRATED. London: George 
Virtue, 1836. Illustrated by W. H. Bartlett with lovely steel 
engravings of views of Switzerland. Two added engraved vignette 
titles, one folding engraved map, and 106 engraved plates. First 
edition. 2 volumes. Full polished calf, heavily tooled in gilt with 
borders of florets and red leather title label, gilt doublure, 
marbled end papers and edges. [[2], iv, [2], 188; [4], 152 pgs] Near 
fine. There is very mild foxing to some of the plates , moderate to 
frontispieces and engraved titles, but the text pages and map are 
without foxing. Mild rubbing to extremities. Beautiful appearance.

3.  BURKE, JOHN. BERNARD.  VISITATION OF THE SEATS AND ARMS OF THE 
NOBLEMEN AND GENTLEMEN OF GREAT BRITAIN, A.: Colburn & Co and Hurst 
and Blackett (successors to Colburn), 1852-54. Illustrated by well 
over 100 tinted lithographic plates and about 50 pages of engravings 
of coats of arms. All plates are like new and protected by tissue 
guards. 4 volumes. Contemporary three quarter crushed brown morocco 
with raised bands green paper-covered boards and gilt lettering, 
t.e.g. by Root, in near fine condition. Inscribed by the author, 
"With Sir Bernard Burke's kindest regards". No other writing in any 
volume. Small 4to. [Text about coats of arms, indices, plates and 999 
pgs] Fine. Very scarce complete set of the two series in four 
volumes. This is a survey of  the mansions and coats of arms of the 
landed gentry of England, Scotland and Ireland. It was written by the 
author of Burke's Peerage and Landed Gentry. Ironically, Burke was an 
Irishman. He was descended from an old Tipperary family. He was 
appointed Keeper of the State Papers of  Ireland in 1855.

Boston: Francis A Niccolls and Co., 1911. Illustrated by Phiz, 
Wrightson, Lee and others on vellum paper. Celtic edition. # 76 of 
1000 copies printed. 4 volumes. Green crushed levant with gilt 
designs in the spine compartments, raised bands, light green 
linen-covered boards. Spines are evenly sunned to a rich brown, t. e. 
g. Fine. Volumes are in such good condition as to appear unopened. 
Former owner's contemporary bookplate at pastedown of each volume.

5.  GOLDSMITH, OLIVER.  WORKS OF OLIVER GOLDSMITH. London: John 
Murray, 1854. Edited by Peter Cunningham. Illustrated by engraved 
extra title pages and frontispiece of Goldsmiths Monument in Volume 
IV. 4 volumes. Full dark green straight-grained  morocco gilt, with 
gilt single-rule border, spines decorated with florets and lettered 
in gilt in compartments, gilt board edges and inner dentelles, top 
edge gilt, marbled endpapers by Tout. Large 8vo. Near fine. Gift 
insription erased but barely visible on free endpaper. Minor scuffing 
and previous owner's bookplate to pastedown. A very handsome set of 
this desirable edition.  $425.00

Limited to 500 copies. 3 volumes. Original quarter dark brown levant 
with lighter brown cloth-covered boards, t.e.g. Gilt spine lettering 
by Harcourt Bindery. Fine. First volume has date and research center 
name stamped on copyright page. No other markings. Bibliography of 
the works of this famous colonial clergyman who approved of the 
execution of the "Salem witches". He wrote the most famous of the

8.  IRVING, WASHINGTON.  ANALECTIC MAGAZINE. Philadelphia: Moses 
Thomas, 1813-1820. Edited by Washington Irving et al. Illustrated by 
many other engravings than those specifically mentioned. 16 volumes. 
Finely bound in matching nineteenth century 3/4 black morocco with 
marbled boards, raised bands, gilt lettering and florets in the 
compartments. Fine. There is an old owner's bookplate in each volume, 
with matching heraldric design on leather labels to boards and his 
shelf number is stamped on each first index page. his blindstamp is 
on one or two pages in each volume also.  The bindings are all very 
good and tight and the pages are crisp and nearly like new. This is 
the complete run, all published, of this rare periodical. It consists 
of Volume I- Volume 14 and Volume I and II of the New Series. They 
cover the period of January, 1813 - December, 1820.
