Donini, Giuseppe. SAGGIO AEREONAUTICO.
Firenze; Presso Giuseppe di Giovacchino Pagani: 1819.
charming Italian handbook to hot air and hydrogen ballooning. Donini
describes the construction of balloons and the means of bringing them up
and down, as well as that most profound of all questions confronting the
enthusiastic balloonist -moving forward, backward and turning. The four
finely engraved plates illustrate types of balloons as well as diagrams for
balloon locomotion. OCLC locates 11 copies of this study. Donini wrote
several other studies of flight, including a "Letter" on aerial navigation
in 1828. Softcover. 5.25"x8", 92 pages plus 4 folding engraved plates;
bound in original stiff marbled wraps; a little minor soil and spotting,
but overall a very nice, wide-margined copy. [01944] $1250.00
