VARDON, Harry. /PROGRESSIVE GOLF/. Bound in publisher's green buckram
with black spine lettering, 30 b&w photo plates. Published by McClelland
& Stewart, Toronto. ND, hb, small 8vo, pp. 160. The first Canadian
edition, printed from the British plates, as published by Hutchinson in
the 1920s.
With sixteen folding photo plates, printed on coated paper (some creased
irregularly). Chapters and photos illustrate "A Study of Putting"; "How
to Use the Mashie"; "How to Use the Niblick"; "How to Use the Mid-Iron";
"How to Use the Cleek"; and "The Driving Swing". Contents clean,
endpapers unmarked, hinges and joints tight. The pages are somewhat
rough cut, and the foredges are a bit foxed. There is a crease to the
front board, with some slight rubbing to the head and foot of the spine;
else the book is in very good condition. This title is exceedingly
scarce in the original dust jacket, which has a b&w photo pastedown on
the front panel. The jacket is a bit torn at the head and foot of the
spine, and at the top and bottom of the folds. The spine is a bit
discoloured, with some light general wear & rubbing. Now encased in
archival-quality, clear protective acetate, and in about good condition.
