Greetings All,
For your consideration:
~
(No. 7788 ) Hamilton, Charles. AMERICAN AUTOGRAPHS: SIGNERS OF THE
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, REVOLUTIONARY WAR LEADERS, PRESIDENTS (IN TWO
VOLUMES).
Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, (1983). First printing, Hardcover,
Folios, xii, 353 and vii, [354]-633 pages, Facsimiles of documents,
signatures. Near Fine in a Near Fine slipcase.
The unsurpassed reference to the signatures and handwriting of the
most prominent political leaders in American history providing over 2,000
facsimile letters, documents and signatures drawn from the extensive
manuscript collections of the Library of Congress and the National Archives
as well as other public and private collections. Volume I covers the signers
and Revolutionary War leaders, and volume II covers the American presidents
through Reagan. Includes many instructive examples of secretarial proxies,
autopen patterns, and outright forgeries as well. Don't venture into the
field of high-end American historical autographs without this reference.
This is a review copy of the set with publisher's slip and press release
laid into volume I. Fully indexed. Bound in dark blue leather-textured paper
over boards with teal-colored cloth sides. Spines and upper boards stamped
in gilt and dark blue foil, decorated endpapers. Both volumes pristine but
for a small rusty outline of a paperclip on front free endpaper of volume I
from the press release and publisher's notice card apparently being
paperclipped together when originally laid in (these lay-ins have
corresponding marks). Slipcase has some slight wear at corner tips and a few
shallow scratches to sides, otherwise fine. $750.00
