al.  1716. First Edition. xiv[2] 298 [2] pp. Quarto (7-1/4" x  9-3/4")
bound  in  full  contemporary  calf  with  a  red  morocco  label  and
gilt-decorated  spine.  Hill p. 115. Text in French. Illustrated  with
maps,  city plans, plates of natives, and natural history specimens, a
total  of  35 (of 37) plates including Plate 9 which shows an  "indien
du  Chili  en Macun jouant … la sueca, jeu de croce" which  is  widely
regarded  as the earliest printed depiction of a form of golf. Lacking
are  plates XXXI (Incas and Indiens du Perou) and XXXIII (Baye de tous
les  Saints).  Bound in where Plate XXXI should be is  a  contemporary
manuscript  note  about the two missing plates. Small tears to  gutter
of endpaper. Near Fine copy                                   $2500.00
